Regular Health Screening Tests That Every Man Should Have

Detecting the symptoms of different health conditions at an early stage can definitely make a difference. This is because, at this time, this is when it is most treatable and is very important in helping men stay healthy. This is why health screening for men regularly should be part of your to-do list that nobody should ignore.

So what are the health screening tests that are important for men? Take a look at the list below:

Blood Cholesterol and Blood Pressure Levels

Men who are 35 years old and above should get their blood cholesterol levels checked on a regular basis. If you use tobacco, you are overweight or obese, have serious health problems like diabetes, high blood pressure, history of heart disease, or if you have a relative who previously had a heart attack before they reached 50 years old, you should get your cholesterol level checked as soon as you reach 20 years old.

Men, especially those who have a cardiovascular risk should check their blood pressure regularly. Checking of blood pressure can be done at your doctor’s office. Remember that high blood pressure is one of the biggest risks for heart disease and can also cause other serious health conditions.

Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm

Men who age between 65 to 75 who smoked tobacco should get screened for an abdominal aortic aneurysm. A CT scan, ultrasound, or MRI can help determine if there is an aortic aneurysm, the size of it, and the extent of the problem. One of the major risks of aortic bulging is when it ruptures that can result in severe or fatal internal bleeding.

Regular Health Screening TestsRisks For Colon Cancer

Every man should be checked and screened for colorectal cancer by age 50. Men who have a family history of colorectal cancer should have a colonoscopy sooner. There are different tests that can help detect colon cancer at an early stage, but the colonoscopy is still the standard that every physician requests first.

Depression And Overall Mental Health

Never ignore mental health problems. According to statistics, an estimated 6 million men suffer from depression each year. Most of them are under-diagnosed and under-treated. You can talk to your doctor and get screened for depression if you think that you experienced any of the following symptoms:

  • Changes in appetite.
  • Changes in sleeping pattern.
  • Loss of interest in hobbies and activities that you previously enjoy.
  • Feelings of guilt, hopelessness, irritability, sadness, and anxiety.
  • No motivation to do anything for the day.
  • Have a difficulty concentrating and thinking.
  • Recurring thoughts of death and suicide.

Blood Sugar Levels And Diabetes

Men who are taking medication for their high blood pressure should also get checked for diabetes or high blood sugar. If you are persistently feeling thirst, frequent urination, weight loss, increased hunger, and tingling in the hands or feet, you should talk to your doctor and get tested. A blood test is the preferred screening for diabetes where it checks your blood sugar over the last three months.
